Are there any Haskell articles about solving actual problems?

This got me thinking of articles by Joel Spolsky. Here is an example: https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2000/04/06/things-you-should-... Text-wise his articles are often very interesting though.

Isn't it better to treat people the same way as you want to be treated. If you take the time to write to a maintainer, I'm sure you would appreciate a reply. Why not just politely explain why you wont spend time on the issue, mayb

This comment section is not complete without mentioning Oberon, designed by maestro prof. Niklaus Wirth. First appearing in 1988 it may not be a new language but it has gone through several simplifications and the latest revision is from 20

The implementation can be more concisely written (and without reassigning variables) as float InvSqrt(float x) { long yl; float y; yl = 0x5f3759df - ((*(long *) &x) >> 1); y = *(float *) &yl; re

I guess a verb phrase comes up naturally when you are eager to implement a new function and think of all the steps required to calculate the result. However, a noun phrase is a more proper abstraction since the implementation may change to

Another interesting systems programming language is the Pascal descendant Oberon which is (way) simpler than all three languages mentioned: https://www.miasap.se/obnc/oberon-report.html

It depends on the culture and the programming language. The advantage of using noun phrases for pure functions is that 1. only by reading the name of the function you know it's a pure function 2. a call to a pure function in an express

When I see a subroutine with a verb in its name I think of side-effects. In my book a pure function should be named after the result it returns, so in this case I would use the name `definition' instead of `find_definition' and `d

If I'm not mistaken, the first example is equivalent to the following purely structured code: void * const p = malloc(25); if (p != NULL) { void * const q = malloc(25); if (q != NULL) { if (mtx_lock(&mut) !=

I have a year-old TV from LG. Changing channels with the numeric buttons take around 4 seconds, while using the increment/decrement buttons I have to wait only one second. Strange!

Oberon, however, is a purely structured language and has no goto-like statements like "break".

A generalized version of the while loop was suggested by Edsger Dijkstra. This loop has more than one guard and terminates when all guards evaluate to false. With this construct the greatest common divisor can be calculated quite succinctly

Exactly, Oberon is now a purely structured language in which each statement sequence fully executed. There are no goto-like constructs.
