Am really surprised (and pleased) to see web audio API on the list. But a part of me wonders if it is true. It hasn't yet come to ship in Safari on the desktop and is only available via nightlies afaik.

Interesting. RandallBrown's was easy to read, but you're wasn't. I read "are the future throughout history" and cracked up :)

Language is a powerful way to interact with systems. With the mouse, we got first a single primitive - point and click. That vocabulary expanded to drag, but still that's about it. With touch interfaces, we got swipe and pinch thrown in. Th

The concept of a "descriptor" as an object for memory accesses that helps with bounds checking and preventing memory overruns was borrowed lock stock and barrel (including the terminology) into the Symbian OS's C++ API - classes TDesC, TDes

This is interesting, but doing it all at the compiler and language level seems like overkill. ObjC is a dynamic language, so the important thing is to have namespacing support in the runtime . If the user of a framework or bundle can spe

Having read Dan Ariely's post about "a note to Zuckerberg..." ( http://danariely.com/2012/05/16/the-facebook-ipo-a-note-to-m... ), I think the title better rephrased as "facebook IPO succeeds in not 'popping'..." instead! Edit: I would summ

I believe there are a considerable number of these "older people" who'd appreciate support for multiple identities. I think Posterous's "spaces" idea is better aligned with the "multiple identities" concept than Google+ "circles" anyway. "S

It's not funny that languages such as Joy, AppleScript and Hypercard don't even autocomplete but haXe and xpath do. I was going to suggest putting in all names from " http://hopl.murdoch.edu.au/ - "An interactive roster of programming lang

And then there is the powerful and ancient weapon - the arrow. When was the last time arrows had heads like this ->? What would we substitute them with in our flow charts and graphs (the nodes/edges kind)? What would we use instead to p

This is from the "Brain Pickings weekly" curated newsletter - http://www.brainpickings.org/ (see the "hat tip" in that post). The topics featured in that newsletter would appeal to HNers I think and I recommend it.

I was first exposed to HTMs through Jeff Hawkins' book "On Intelligence". I found the explanatory power behind HTMs comparable to what the theory of evolution could do. That got me both excited and cautious ... or perhaps "cautiously optimi

One relatively speedy route to getting solid numerics scriptability in JS is to do the heavy lifting in NaCl. An NaCl plugin for node would then let you use the same binaries on both the server and client.

It seems to me that NaCl stands the best chance of reviving "code to the metal" programming in a web environment. 1. It is more cross platform than most native code today - the same assembly runs on win-mac-linux without recompilation. 2. H

Not sure whether what you saw was an artifact of your long exposure to callbacks. The Go/Erlang kinds of approaches need you to think at a slightly higher level than callbacks. A small step is the concept of a "promise" .. which, in Go, can
