If you put Apache and Postgres into the same cgroup/pid namespace/mount namespace/network namespace, an attack on Apache could result in access to the mount namespace of your Postgres. (Presumably that is something you are tr

now that they are on gtk3, it will get a lot easier to get the ui styling they want. in fact, based on irc conversations they seem to be moving forward with the css theming pretty quickly.

There is a gtk3 branch of gimp which brings HiDPI support. I still need to land the new frame clock (for vblank sync) for the gtk quartz backend though.

Quite honestly, I'm more worried about inaccurately portraying their viewpoint. Most of my teams run-ins with the lawyers was LGPL related, and their interpretation of LGPL 2.1 section 6a.

I worked at VMware for a couple years and this was a contributing factor to why I left. I know a number of people that felt it was a GPL-violation and refused to work on that product because of it, myself included. The lawyers in that compa

I don't see any mention of where the author mitigates, or prevents the ABA problem. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABA_problem - Some systems will use a double-CAS where one word is a counter. - People lucky enough

It's the X11 protocol which is the problem. Doing a desktop app in a VM without using something like VNC (ssh -X) doesn't really help. Even VNC clients sharing clipboard content with the host system poses an attack vector, for exa

If you are connecting to X, it doesn't matter. You can attack all other X11 clients by design. This is why GNOME is pushing so heavily on xdg-app (for the sandbox) and the wayland-enabled GNOME shell (so apps can't snoop on each o

I don't think Linus is up to date on libgio-2.0 (and the GDBus implementation). It does in fact use a SLAB, based on early kernel versions with per-thread allocation caching. As for avoiding utf8 validation, that would require being ab

Exactly (since userspace DBus has to use sockets, kdbus uses memfd). Imagine if you had to fix that in every program that ever wanted to do IPC instead of just one place. Sounds like a security and maintenance nightmare.
