In my experience, some employers don't even care if you have a competing offer. They will change nothing. I've written about this before [1]. To me, the best thing about having multiple offers is that you can at least make a ch

You're right that there isn't a good alternative. I'll just describe that I try to do even if it is inadequate. I write the code as obviously as possible without taking more time (as a courtesy to myself), and I then docume

I completely agree that "publish or perish" harms innovation. Funding and research positions have become so predicated on rapid and consistent publication that it incentives researchers to focus on incremental and generally low-r

This is a great point. I'll add that search engines are also unclear about what kind of output they give. As you point out, search engines accept both questions and key words as queries. Arguably you'd want completely different

I've always used LaTeX in a Git repository. That's not uncommon in research or academia.

I worked at LANL until very recently, so yes, I was associated with the DOE. I actually agree with your point that "the ability to determine novelty ... is a crapshoot". My point was that the AI system should at least try to prov

You raise a good point overall. I was just trying to respond to the idea of it replacing a human entirely, as if the authors submit it to the system and a journal editor has to made the decision to publish it or not. I would love to focus

No worries, I appreciate that you took the time to read and respond! When I first read "Originality and Contribution" at [1], I actually assumed it was a plagiarism check. It did not occur to me until now that you were referring

I'm a PhD and researcher who has worked in various fields, including at a national lab. I think AI systems like this could greatly help with peer review, especially as a first check before submitting a manuscript to a journal. That sai

I agree. I've worked at a national lab before and I immediately thought this service is a massive security risk. It will definitely be hard for some scientists to use these kind of cloud services, especially if their research truly i

Using planes is a standard OSINT technique since their locations are well known. It's just another way to whittle down the location of things or to verify the location of a photo if you have a guess already.
