I was trying to draw that point out. Sometimes news like this is used to pump crypto coins.

They will use a private net so it's irrelevant to Bitcoin or Ethereum.

You could do exactly the same thing with a centralized ledger and it would be faster and cheaper. The point of a blockchain is security and irreversible transactions.

Bitcoin is used for drugs, prostitution, and gambling. That terrible bug was the DAO, but that's the nature of the blockchain and applies to Bitcoin as well. If you want rollbacks you use a centralized server.

Why wouldn't they use Ethereum?

It will likely happen this year with Tezos. Ethereum will eventually use POS as well.

It wastes energy compared to POS (Proof of Stake).

Mining is a waste of energy. An ICO makes sense if they 1) have a product that benefits from a blockchain, 2) have a great team and a demo of their product.

Problems: 1) Flash crash 2) Horrible customer support 3) Delayed Ethereum widthdrawals when the network isn't under stress They have a lot of problems. They may be happy to spend the money to clean up one of them.

Is it even illegal to hack Ethereum? Some purists would say the smart contract was behaving as written.

Why not convert to USD after a token sale and use that money to buy the town? Smart contracts are a solution searching for a problem. To date no one has done anything even remotely impressive with smart contracts except lose tons of money.

I have a portable air conditioner that I throw my Z5 compact into when I'm tethering. I assume you would need to do the same with this to get good performance.

I still don't get it. How is my comment egocentric? e·go·cen·tric ˌēɡōˈsentrik/ adjective 1. thinking only of oneself, without regard for the feelings or desires of others; self-centered.

I have a sous vide, but it doesn't have bluetooth or whatever Joule has. It seems unnecessary to make all appliances smart when a knob to set the temperature and a timer on the phone works just as well.
