COVID and the resulting supply chain issues certainly highlighted the need to produce basic necessities (e.g. food, medical supplies, antibiotics) rather than rely on imports. It remains to be seen whether it goes further than that.

This is my point. Gelsinger milked all the profit out of VMWare when it was a cash cow, but sacrificed VMWare's future. They were #1 in virtualization, setup to dominate the cloud. Not only did they let it go, their partnerships made i

Gelsinger ran VMWare into the ground. These kind of moves don't bode any better for Intel.

I assume UF has a conflict of interest office for this reason and I can see UF's argument whether I agree with the outcome or not. So I would ask why these 3 professors? Are there not private Florida institutions (e.g. UMiami) or unive

I have an engineering background. My experience with cofounder matchmaking services is that non-tech cofounders often just want someone who will code the entire product in exchange for some equity. Hard no.

It seems like Apple purposely comes so close to offering the perfect laptop only to falter hard on one or two features. In this case, it's the battery life. Continuous web use time is down from 17 hours on the 2020 13" M1 to 11 ho

I've considered getting my Series 65 for this same reason, but my concern was how it would affect my other investments. e.g. your typical low-cost brokerage accounts with TD Ameritrade, Schwab, etc are not available for professionals.

The professional managerial class is losing their minds. It's harder to take credit for the work of others when they can insulate themselves working remote.

Are they still forcing recruits to travel to Seattle for a loop interview or have they gone virtual? I interviewed a few years ago and the cross-country travel was tiresome. Also, my room at the Inn at the WAC smelled like mold. Not an expe

This sounds like the social media equivalent of Apple's CSAM feature. Use children and teens as the straw man argument for censoring social media so you can use it later to squash political descent.

I’ve been using Azure since the old portal and it always feels like Microsoft is just checking the box. AWS launches some innovative new service and Azure copies them with a half-as-capable alternative.

Hacker News IS harmful because there's no established standard for what should receive an upvote or downvote (>500 karma can downvote). This leads to people just upvoting things they agree with and downvoting things they don't.

Everyone will get covid. You will get covid. I will get covid. The vaccinated will get covid. The unvaccinated will get covid. Why? Because vaccines don't prevent infection and spread. The only thing they do is reduce the severity. So

Personally, I think Gelsinger ran VMWare into the ground. He completely missed the boat on cloud. Now he's taking over a company steeped in bureaucracy that's several generations behind on chip fabrication. They are still trying t

Lex Fridman does the same thing for non-robotics/AI issues. It's wild how someone so brilliant in one area can be so naïve in another.

The only Joe Rogan episodes worth watching are the Tim Dillon ones. If you know, you know. Otherwise, I stopped watching when he moved to Spotify. It's just a terrible platform all-around. He destroyed his brand for $150M.
