Virtue is not what survives hard times, it's grit and brutality. Raw strength. Morals and virtues are what arise during good times once we've secured survival.

Makes sense. Strength is useless during peace times, so strong men find themselves out of a job with nothing to channel their strength into. "Weakness" which in this case means classically feminine traits are useless during war ti

Passive income was never defined as "no work, receive income". It was, "work once, passive income later without extra work". As in, your full time employer will stop paying you if you stop working. Your books that you wr

What most privacy advocates don't get is that users do not care . The vast majority of people make their choice by buying the cheapest thing. In this case, the cheapest thing is free, paid with data.

If that's childish, then fuck being an adult. In fact, if you want to step it up a notch, than being an "adult" is having as many children as you can to pass on your genes. Anything more than that is stuff humans made up to n

The "liberation" from self destruction is more of a temporary numbness, a borrowed liberation from tomorrow, that disappears once the hangover starts clearing up. It's a false sense of liberation. Speaking from experience.

The counting barrier in the paper I linked is meant specifically for shared memory multiprocessors, not distributed systems, so what you're saying makes more sense. Both the counter and the state are shared variables across all threads

How? Only one thread, the last one when the counter is 0, flips the switch. Before the switch is flipped, the counter is reset, so the next flip will only happen when every thread once again hits the next barrier and the counter decrements

This seems very similar to the centralized counting barrier described in [1] where each thread, upon hitting the barrier, decrements the count and spins until a global "sense" boolean is reversed. The last thread to hit the barrie
