Capitalism is about profit. Infrastructure is financed when it brings profit, and ignored when it stops doing that. E.g. railroad boom and the current state of railroads. When someone figured that space can bring profit too, we got some dev

I agree with these sad facts, and they are important for me personally, but, well, so did many other countries unfortunately. Including the United States and Canada ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_St._Louis ).

We support all EU sanctions against Russia. As for the extent of holding Nazi money — we held Allies money just as well. If you are taking about “Switzerland does not allow reexporting its weapons to Ukraine” — it also doesn’t allow reexpor

25% of Swiss population are foreigners. It is 60% in Geneva where I live. Yes, non-citizens cannot vote (except in some municipal and cantonal referendums). But neither can they in the US.

Well, we had the same system while surrounded by enemies during WW2. It still served us well. And what, the United States are surrounded by superpowers willing to wage war? That is news to me.

This is why we have direct democracy in Switzerland, and I wonder why it is not used anywhere else.

I am fine with C++ memory safety if I am mostly working with RAII and explicit move semantics when needed (it is not perfect, but it will get us through the night). However, fighting the borrow checker drastically _decreases_ my quality of

I wish I could take the Rust pill like everyone else and be happy. I am not a stranger to the programming world. I am fluent in Python, Java, Scala, Erlang. I can write acceptable Haskell and C++ and Common Lisp. I am well versed in functio

So, you will be taught only by people who do not need to earn money to live. I.e., aristocrats. This is by design, I suppose.

I am not implying that LLMs are conscious or something. Just that they can reason, i.e. draw logical conclusions from observations (or, in their case, textual inputs), and make generalizations. This is a much weaker requirement. Chess engin

LLMs can _play chess_. With the game positions previously unseen. How’s that not actual logical reasoning?

Ah, half of the commentariat still think that “LLMs can’t reason”. Even if they have enough state space for reasoning, and clearly demonstrate that.

I wonder how nobody talks about moral considerations of this atrocity. Just like 80 years ago. “Do we have enough livestock cars to move them _all_ to Poland?” I am scared for the future of our civilization.

I am aware of the phenomenon; the interesting part is the word “conditioned”. By whom? And, eventually, who paid for the conditioning? (I think it mostly ends with the usual suspects, Russia, China and Iran).

To do — how? by invading their countries and establishing a police state? That’s a little too much even for so called “nationalists”. I think it’s just plain old bribery and propaganda. As a Russian who emigrated a long time ago for politic
