We're trying to build a service that's more akin to Google Cloud Service and Amazon S3, not Nearline, IA, or Glacier. Those all have certain limitations (like time to access your data) that we are trying to avoid, which is why we

Yev from Backblaze here -> We're designing to have 8 "9's" of durability. Our speed tests have been pretty good thus far, but like with our online backup product it's best to just try it and see how quickly you c

Yev from Backblaze -> B2 can be a bit cheaper because our service works a bit differently from S3. For example, uploading files doesn't require expensive load balancers in our data center. Instead, we require the dev to make 2 API c

Hi! No, I use a program for that, it's actually kinda cool, though I don't get "alerts" I just monitor it. It's mention.net. Highly recommend it if you have a lot of internet chatter you want to stay ahead of. Funny

As much as I shudder saying it, Google+ has been pretty good at keeping all of my photos. Though I have them backed up from my Android device. Not sure how well it works when actively using it for photo storage.

Arq says they have no plans to do it in the near term at the moment, but hopefully once we open it to the public they'll want to integrate. Worst case, if we make a bajillion dollars, we'll hire some more devs to whip something to

Yev from Backblaze -> Not naive! You could definitely reconfigure the design to hold SSDs, but that would add cost, which is something we're really concerned about. But the short answer is yes, you can use SSDs, though it increases

Well, at least in the States it's gotten pretty close to those levels if not gone down to slightly below them. Not sure where that relates to the Aussie dollar though :-(

The most important thing for us is Cost per GB. Right now the 4TB drives we're using are still much cheaper than the 8TBs, so we go with the 4s, but the Pods work with 8TBs if you want to drop the dough on them!
