Yes, I was a little confused at why the article framed it as "a loss for ISPs". Did ISPs pay Ars Technica to put a spin on it?

I'm not talking about consciousness adhering to logical consistency (I think it actually requires completeness ). I'm talking about all parts of a given mind needing to agree on what the current focus of attention is. Failure to

The author has perhaps overlooked CAP theorem. Consciousness requires both consistency and high-availability, thus it can't arise in situations of partitioned networks. Brains (or, at least, most healthy brains) are unpartitioned. But

It seems likely that the author has just aged and is noticing different things about the world. And people who didn't seem like culture heroes at the time, now seem in hindsight like they were always culture heroes. Rich people and pol

Yes. And it didn't have to be an all-or-nothing thing. It's also plausible that cow milk was used for babies who lost their mother. So to create an evolutionarily significant effect, it was sufficient to simply select for babies w

I came here to say the exact same thing. Who even goes around comparing things to seeds anyway? The writer was trying to be cute but just ended up saying something bizarre and stupid.

When did I say that? Maybe someday address scraping bots will learn base64. Maybe it will be at about the same time you learn to read.

The person you're replying to didn't say anything about whether or not sociological studies are or are not real science. Being unable to make that distinction, do you think you're in a good position to explore the scientific

Base64 would be better: unlikely to be automatically checked by bots, easy to decode, and guarantees that the decoded form matches the true email.

Sure, it's a stupid law, but that's a separate issue to the idea that Google's response is also self-defeating. We're already laughing at the idea of Google search no longer being available, like do they think we haven&#

That could happen. So don't forget. Or don't worry so much. A little personal responsibility and stoicism is called for; when you mess up, learn from the mistake and move on with your life.

It is a bit offputting that the install script expects sudo rights just to copy a file from a user-readable directory to a user-writeable directory. That is literally the only place where sudo is used, so it should be removed. (After removi
