I have held off donating to signal so far exactly because there is no clarity around this token, why it was even added to signal and who profited from that.

Something I don't understand is: how is other companies making money an existential threat for Element? It seems rather that Element's hopes of making enough money (to fund development) by selling hosted/managed services was

Thanks, I stand corrected. How does this play with third-party contributions? Others might be the copyright-holders of a sub-section of the code.

Do you know if there are public resources one can check to know how to stay safe, or is asking locals the best options? My only gripe with that is that it’s not always possible, one might find oneself by a seemingly nice river/lake wit

How do these SEO dashboards know what people are searching for? Is there a way (maybe via the ad bidding platform?) to get this kind of data from Google?

As far as I understand, Austrians are precisely not classical liberals, but neoliberals. Cf. for example Hayek’s critique of the classical liberal notion of the perfectly informed, rational market actor.

Delegating to nonprofits is not the same as privatizing. Your argument creates a false dichotomy in which the only two possible actors are the state or private enterprises, but that’s not the case, even for the simple reasons that nonprofit

Any chances you'll introduce business-laptop-friendly warranty policies (like on-site repairs, 5-year long terms), like Lenovo does for ThinkPads? Or that you'll partner with someone who does?

For me the main difference (and comparative advantage of ThinkPads) is the extended, on-site warranty options. For a work laptop, I can't wait for a replacement part to arrive from who knows where, I need a technician next day at my pl

Btw this argument (that the TotC is a consequence of human nature) has been debunked several times (see the wikipedia article for a few). Hardin sets up a very specific scenario, and draws conclusions about human nature from it. This is a f

Rather than of socialism, I’d say FLOSS is a form of (digital) commons, which as GP points out, is a pre-capitalist/non-capitalist form of production and management.

Is there anything like zfs.rent for btrfs? I would like to use my filesystem’s facilities for backing rather than a whole piece of software on top, but I haven’t found any managed storage solutions yet.
