Started by talking with contractors who worked where I was full-time. Many had long term contracts & were making 2x what I made, doing the same work. Test the market before making the jump. Also, keep in mind that staying at the same jo

What are the odds on the carriers actually doing that? I've been predicting that for like 10 years.

Formal bs/ms ee here as well. Started off wanting to do hardware and looked at programming as an afterthought. After a few years of working in embedded and realizing how many gaps there are in my knowledge, and how beautiful the field

Over hundreds of years...it can't. The question remains, how long does that time span extend? 200 years? 300? A millenia? Could the Brooklyn or Ben Franklin Bridge last that long? Even the next 70 or so?

Raises an interesting question: how long can modern bridges last, given they consist mostly of steel?

Woz did a gnomdex talk in 2004 describing the power of exactly that; having the whole system in your head and being able to optimize because of that connectedness in one mind.

Hilarious thing is, this inanity is preserved for eternity. A century from now, kids will be able to look back at perfectly preserved absurdity of this age.

Also, most c++ code is just...ugly. It can really assault the senses, looking at some of the template & indirection abstractions, etc. Rust just looks better, from what I've seen.

Yeah, the editorial titling was definitely clickbaity. That's why I always come to the comments first on HN if an article sounds sensationalistic.

I dont think GoDaddy survived by KKR hiring a top notch engineering staff and knowing what direction to take the technology in. They probably did some spreadsheet magic with debt and tricked some fools into thinking that was a value add.

America's short-term focus on quarterly results will be its eventual undoing. No long-term thinking; it's like making your kids drop out of school & farming them out for child labor to make monthly family income look good. Tot
