I'm not so sure of this. Most code in a debugger doesn't have much to do with the source language. Line mapping and figuring out values for variables happens via symbol information, eg. DWARF, and compilers for multiple languages

If you install some pointless garbage as root on a free OS, it can make your system unbootable. I don't think an OS vendor has any blame here. The mistake here is people think they need third party security solutions that are actually

And that's the problem. It's not particularly useful to write it off, particularly absurd that you do so on the grounds that it's an extremely prevalent problem.

Sometimes I even notice when you go into comment sections trying to say that certain techniques are not best practices, people call you elitist, say you're making nothing more than appeals to authority, and say there's nothing wro

Nope. Unicode correctness is much more complicated than switching char to wchar_t. Many glyphs take multiple codepoints or multiple character units in either utf-16 or utf-8. You need something like the break iterator "character"

I thought it was a joke at first. Can you imagine Google SSO on a Win32 app in the 9x era?

I feel like this person went through an unnecessary and false tangent about how people are "afraid" of memcpy due to inexperience and missed the much more important criticism that arbitrary, naive truncation on a byte level doesn&

I think normies (not hn reading outliers) in Gen Z and alpha may have regressed. Younger people come up in the era of devices and apps hiding the existence of a filesystem from you.

Obviously clothing and hairstyles change. More recently, average BMI is higher, or people are more likely to be tattooed. I'm sure there's other differences that aren't coming to mind. But even setting aside any of that, it&#

The OS doesn't know that the application doesn't want feedback from the speaker, and not 100% of applications will want such filtering. I think a best practice from the OS side would be to provide it as an optional flag. (Defaul

Iirc there was a version in the kernel tree, then "upstream" if you could even call it that developed it further (OSS 4.0). I think there was a company behind it and a nonfree license. Obviously that was a no-go for inclusion into

Linux actually does this a lot. Jwz called it "Cascade of Attention-Deficit Teenagers" more than 20 years ago, describing GNOME. Look at audio. PulseAudio is mostly pointless and over-engineered. Breaks a lot. You could say the sa
