I haven't personally seen it either, though sounds like I'm less experienced than you. I've heard of a few though. In 2019 a bay area software engineer who by all accounts was a good guy, maybe somebody here knows him, attack

I remember when this style was current, though some of these images are slightly older than I am. Also, "a door somewhere" reminds me of old album covers. For whatever reason I'm thinking of Lou Reed's "take no pri

With psychedelics the risk profile is very different. Firstly, people can do harmful things during the trip. Second, a more vague, difficult to measure and predict concern around long term psychological effects to some people.

As was probably covered in the thread yesterday, it's kind of an impossible position. Anything she did can and would be attributed to Elon. Anything she could have done to challenge Elon would have resulted in being pushed out. Nobody

I think it's a mistake to view that situation as unique to English. Spain is still a multi lingual country with several local languages each of them centuries old. But even ignoring that and focusing only on Castilian, there were invas

I think it's older than 2025 and definitely has a piece of it that is specific to Catholics. I tend to think of northeastern American Catholicism from the lens of immigration. The big waves of Italians, Irish, Eastern Europeans, etc.

As someone with a family background of more left leaning Catholics (which I think are more common in the US northeast), it's interesting that it decided that you are conservative based on Catholicism.

This is a weird video to see after one of my son's doctors told me I should supplement him with zinc. Of course I'm following dosage recommendations.

The phrase "good enough for government work" was actually not originally meant ironically. It was for Roosevelt's Works Progress Administration and it was an optimistic statement on the quality of the work.

The problem is that Reagan/Thatcher's failed experiment is now considered an inevitable law of the universe. Taxes can only go down. Anything else is crazy. You get people talking about taxation's effect on the economy as a b

I'm not even talking about the financial status of these students, which due to the nature of the school sounds like it's pretty dire. I'm merely talking about stability for the child. This would be a stressful event even for

Are you a parent? It's still a very bad situation to abruptly need to find a new school, even if you get a pathetic $1000 coupon for a school which costs much more than that.

In the 1950s, we taxed income over $400,000 at somewhere around 90%. Anything you made less than that was taxed much less, but every dollar above $400,000 the government took most of it, which effectively put a cap on wages. Won't be p

As a parent, I can't imagine the chaos that ensues when your kid's school ceases to exist overnight. Keeping that school running is less than pocket change to them. I feel like their action is morally quite shameful.

Are we reading the same tables? It seems to be about 3x faster than named pipes, and marginally faster than local TCP. It's worth noting that in Win32, an unnamed pipe is just a named pipe with the name discarded. So this "3x fa
