For comparison, I was looking at slicer source lately. Slic3r and its popular forks (prusa slicer, Bambu, orca) are using C++ with wxWidgets and boost. Sometimes outdated versions of those libraries at that. But stuff that will work, and to

I'm not citing Chomsky with a claim that he's unassailable, just that it's a very old complaint. I also think he was right about a bunch of stuff, and wrong on others. As for what he suggested, this is reminding me that I nev

Right now the Ellison family owns both CBS and the US version of TikTok, so sometimes the connection is kind of literal. But this complaint is pretty old, I think of Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent. (Setting aside his Epstein connectio

You have easy access in that you can find things if you look for it. What that commenter means by easy access is that the information is in mainstream sources pushed to people such that you are likely to know about it without having looked.

Gang enhancements are mostly a falsehood that cops and prosecutors use to get heavier prison sentences for racial minorities and to justify their budgets. Also, you seem to have mixed up prison gangs with street gangs in this latest comment

I was at Microsoft for a few years. I think some amount of blame has to go to hiring quality declining over the years. I wrote a bit about this in an old comment: > They have a lot of staff turnover too, and each generation of new SDE h

I'm surprised to see so many anti-graffiti comments here. Some of these are crude or ugly (and I'm aware that this is subjective), but a few of these are really good and don't deserve a citation. Meanwhile this thread is SC

No, the way any serious person would look at crime data is per capita. You take the number of crimes committed by an immigrant and divide by the number of immigrants. That gives you a rate. The rate is lower than for people born in the US.

Among the subculture that would be the type to visit Hacker News (or Slashdot back in the day), this attitude emerged around 25 years ago. In the late 90s, there was widespread enthusiasm for the Linux desktop. I remember those days fondly.
