At my nanoscopic scale (a game for Minetest), I don't give a shoot about that. What matters is that the game does what I want. I consider programming is an art and I get paychecks for more mundane programming, where doing Git right and

I think in the case of Mumble, the chat feature is intended to be used to let people fix sound issues, nothing more. This sort of is yet another data point related to a conundrum: on one hand, applications that integrate multiple functional

As I said, application programmers expect and accept that their UDP packets might be lost or duplicated. This is sort of part of the contract. Even datagram integrity is in theory not guaranteed, as the checksum field of UDP is optional. So

Huh? It's an obvious thing to do. If you have to drop a packet because your queues are full, any engineer with an IQ over 50 will pick the victim from the UDP packets, because the sender expects it might happen, and also because it won

UDP is unreliable transport by specification , so I guess that if a network equipment such as a router cannot cope with the general workload, it would probably sacrifice UDP first without a second thought.

It's not just "that". Minetest is actually a "voxel game engine", and allows all sorts of things. A better showcase is the community's mod catalog, "ContentDB" [1]. Some mods/games even try to br

Out of curiosity, why did it fail to decode correctly the first time? Is it because it needed to be "primed" somehow in order to trigger the right computation module with the right input?

That's actually what Lua, Python and Shell are doing: the first language is the scripting language, the second language is C in some form. And obviously, that's a successful strategy. But most users won't dive in the C side.
