Keep in mind a UI designer (IA/UX) and a graphic designer are also two different things.

The piece was about as concrete as a corporate mission statement, and just as prosaic. Someone should send him a copy of "Made To Stick: Why some ideas survive and others die" - Chip & Dan Heath.

"Is there a viable market for this type of transportation?" Absolutely. It's a 24 hour commute from our Melbourne, AU house to our Brooklyn, NY house. I've sat next to a fashion buyer who does the trip from SYD-NYC-SYD once a fortnight (tha

Not exactly sure why you're being downmodded. If I follow, you're just saying (if a little enthusiastically) that DB/server administrator skills for hackers matter in a startup. You'd be right - at each startup I've ever been involved in I'

Wall Street will solve this exactly as they've solved every other talent problem - offer such ungodly amounts of money that every man and his dog wants to enter the field; skim the cream.

Agreed. My first job they gave me a copy of Deitel & Deitel's "C How to program" along with the test. You actually lost points if you didn't open it!

Programming challenges sort the wheat from the chaff - in particular those who cannot code at all, but beyond that I've rarely found them predictive of future performance. Much more important that you hire a good fit for your company. An un

A poor title selection detracts from what is otherwise very good advice. The formula is simple and elegant and the result quite useful: an elevator pitch. I can't count the number of times over the years that I've tripped over myself trying

I was very careful not to mention blogs specifically. All sorts of content stimulates emotional responses and thus comment - photos, comics, software, articles, and yes, blog posts. As a feedback mechanism the "blog format" is de rigueur. F

You really haven't read much Steve Yegge have you? He has his gripes (some of which have been recanted, mind), but he explicitly states he likes Python. I'd say you're far from the truth.
