It's true that you do generally have to take the GRE to get into MIT grad school, but it's not really what you're being admitted based on (although you might be rejected for sucking). It's funny to even see an MIT-wide admissions page, sinc

On your final comment, it's a pretty universal truth that every community will eventually find a common enemy. It's part of feeling like you're part of something.

Can you provide queries where yahoo.com, google.com, and live.com are differentiable to a significant degree? Just out of curiousity, moreso than critique.

There's this one out called Yahoo.com. Up and comers. Lots of eyeballs. About to be acquired.

Well, PS3 was not responsible for the wide adoption of Blu-Ray. The studios were. If the PS3 had been an all out slam dunk like the PS2, Toshiba wouldn't have given up, they would've lost. As it stands, the PS3 isn't really even outselling

Actually, there's no way a comment like anewaccountname's would get upmodded to that extent were it not a verbatim reference to pg's previous article. The fact that people here upmod/downmod based on whether they agree rather than whether

Upmodded for your first half. But Arc is definitely not drop in replacement for PHP. And you can use PHP 5 in basically the same ways you could use PHP 3.

Eh, I don't think the repr matters much. What does matter is actually getting all of the other methods implemented (stuff like cmp, eq, etc.). They're all basically pass-throughs, though. Even with that, I think it's still broken in some wa

Pretty Sweet. Here's my hacked together Python version (not sure what Monads have to do with it): class Maybe: def __init__(self, obj): self.o = obj def __repr__(self): return repr(self.o) def __getattr

Of course it's faster to use a precomputed reference than to find an element in the DOM. I can't see the "overhead" of manually storing a reference to a DOM element in a variable ever mattering in any application. Grab it once and you're do

Actually, I'd argue that relying on magical global variables mapping to page elements is bad practice in the first place. If you want an element by ID, that's what document.getElementByID is for (or $ if you're using a JS framework). If you

The case you're talking about, I think, was that of Kai-Fu Lee, who actually was allowed to work at Google, but wasn't allowed to work in the areas he worked in at Microsoft for a year. Instead, he did general recruiting.
