As far as monetization on search goes, more eyeballs = more money, no matter how big or small you are. Not that Live Search is that small.

If anything, that's demotivation, at least for real hackers. Plenty of Fish is popular because of marketing/SEO techniques and throwing successively larger iron at traffic, not because Markus Frind was a technical genius with a clever idea.

If anything, this is more evidence that search is now commoditized, and the difference maker is basically marketing. Your standard consumer probably cares a lot more about saving money than getting whatever incrementally better results Goog

Simplicity is really easy to charge for. Tons of people want to pay for Dropbox because it makes getting files places easy when it wasn't before. Simple , on the other hand, is very difficult to charge for. If you can't demonstrate a subst

I think OkCupid has a pretty good solution to the question. The book "The Game" classifies personality quizzes as "chick crack," and that's the majority of OkCupid's pull right now. ImInLikeWithYou's approach was not bad either; let the gir

Congrats, man. OkCupid loves testimonials and was for a period of time collecting and categorizing them for some vague future use as publicity. You should send something their way just in case. As far as using that stuff for algorithmic pur

Yah, this is too true. The worst thing you can do for your bottom line on a dating site is make a real, long-term match. There go two really happy users, and whatever ad revenue or monthly subscription fee they were making you. But if you d

Though I am a lowly Python noob, I'll tell you it's generally very bad practice to use a mutable as a default argument value. The reason is that a function's default is only ever initialized once. Case in point: >>> def f(
