The first thing that came to mind when I saw this preso was "What algorithm are they using to find the words?" The problem looks something like: Given a string of characters, find all possible words that start and end like the string of cha

The audience of SICP was just the people who were planning to major in EECS at MIT, making it only impractical for, at best, the subset of the major that was interested purely in hardware. Having not been privy to the internal discussion th

The trailing comma thing is actually very un-IE. It's rarely the most stringent, standards-compliant browser.

I'm trying to seed a replacement phrase, "beckons the question," so that we get to keep around the cool archaic sense of "beg."

Why rewrite ack? It's already blazing fast and easy to customize even if you're not actually a perl head.

Just curious, what's poorly implemented about Clickpass?

Haha. I think Ted threw in that last part about using MD5 hashes in his password table just to piss off the people who were really paying attention.

We've been using Anyvite to schedule our weekly poker games. In general, it's a great experience. My only wish is that I could copy an event to a new day and/or make a recurring event.

Yeah, you technically need money to buy options, but in most cases you're buying the stock only to immediately sell it again at its current (higher) value. If there's no buyer for your stock you can probably safely let them go, since the ma

Not entirely true. The US runs completely on case law, so having a precedent like Veoh helps you out a lot. People will be less willing to even take you to court if they see that it's likely they'll lose under a similar ruling. And if you d

Too bad it's not reliably implemented cross browser. It's a great idea, though, so we go ahead and throw httponly onto every cookie we care about, even as we implement other measures. We had to hack together something, though, since Python'

Interesting that Kawasaki didn't pick up on the fact that YC crashes at Anybots HQ when they're on this side of the country. Kind of explains the robots and unicycles.

Yeah, but add in the personal liability part. The RIAA has demonstrated before that they have no problems suing individuals for exorbitant sums of money. At least Oullette had a corporation to protect him.

Arguing that Catcher in the Rye is obsolete because it no longer holds the shock value it once did is like arguing we should stop reading Shakespeare because nobody talks that way anymore. Good literature is good literature. Plus Holden is
