As entertaining as his lectures were, it was still pretty easy to leave with barely any more knowledge than you had going in. Especially as the topics got more complex. I had him for my Waves class, and kids found it to be incredibly hard (

pg's stated before he treats HTML as nothing more than object code. If it runs acceptably on all platforms, who cares what it looks like?

Your code doesn't really provide "proof." You've completely omitted the host's door elimination. I know in the end it doesn't matter, but if you already knew the answer you would code the simulation in the first place, right?

The thing that kills me about this bug is that it's such an easy bug to find in a code-review. Some person totally unfamiliar with the code asks "What happens when that inner if condition is false?" and MSFT is saved from yet another em

Python 3k adds a new keyword, nonlocal , which actually lets you print out x that way (you'd declare nonlocal x before printing). Check out PEP 3104: http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-3104/

The argument that this sort of device makes sense because of the app store is bunk, at the least. You don't take an app running on a high-resolution 3.5 inch screen and just throw it onto a screen 4x as big.

If you've ever been to Google, you'll know that Palantir is a much smaller version of what they've had as a visualization for years. Props to them for putting it together so quickly, but it's certainly not a new visualization type. I'm also

PlentyofFish's revenue numbers aside, one really has to be amazed at their sheer traffic numbers. If the market share stats are to be believed, Match.com and eHarmony are getting trampled on despite their outsize national advertising budget

Kurgman makes the point (briefly) that the incentives for hedge fund managers are only given for short term performance. That incentive means that they can look for strategies that won't blow up for a few years and make bank the whole time.

I can't believe you put "simpler" and "make" in the same sentence. Most of the time you're better off writing a bash script unless you're doing something particularly crazy.

My best guess on implementation for that is to send back a list of selectable rectangles along with the PNG, then highlight them via javascript. No clue how they're copying it to my clipboard, though...
