Not specificly .NET Core, but Xamarin is already available for macOS and is, afaik, actively working on Xamarin.Forms coming to desktop, including Linux.

I really like how things are going forward. Being a .NET developer since 2004 and a Mac user since 2008 I can't wait to use my beloved tooling finally in production on Linux (and on OS X for development).

You're right, my arguments don't apply to all kind of businesses. The same is correct for Xamarin for example. But if you take JetBrains – no one cares how WebStorm or ReSharper are built internally, as long as they do the job.
