Something else I found (by browsing the linked page) is that you can drag (while pressing cmd) and drop one of your apps to the top of the Finder. Removing the app by dragging it back results in a poof animation that I can only describe as

It seems like you can move to the next or previous file with tab + up/down arrow keys. I just found out by mashing all the buttons I could think of. :-)

For scanning there's also Image Capture.app which also comes with the OS. I haven't tried using it with the phone though, just a normal printer/scanner.

Oh, I see! Thanks. I had thought that perhaps it was the distance between thumb and small finger measured in inches vs feet or something. But… I guess it wouldn't make sense for the arms to have to be outstretched then.

Another great use for the iPad is for sheet music. IME it is better than paper and much, much, much better than trying to use an iPhone or PC (which I've done sporadically).
