I would argue that people whose emotions are easily affected by an external influence is the definition of not-well-adjusted.

I don't think its fair to completely blame Social Media and relieve people of all responsibilities. After all, human beings aren't lemmings, if they are being manipulated, then they should bear responsibility for being manipulated

I'm sorry, but how does this have anything to do with "addiction to outrage"? Unless you're implying the Asian-Americans upset are unjustifiably "addicted to outrage" or "less-adjusted", which I'

Addiction to outrage isn't ruining anybody's life. It's an inability to control one's emotions that's ruining people's lives. When somebody says something offensive to a well-adjusted person, do you know what t

That's true, but just because I didn't experience it doesn't mean imaginary enemies isn't a well-worn tactic used in society. The Jews were demonized by Christians in the ye-old days based on imaginary qualities that sim

My problem with "woke culture" is that it's constantly fighting an imaginary enemy, some abstract concept that's been conjured up. I hazard to say this post is a good example of the problem.

I feel like history is going to look at this phenomenon as a strange curiosity, the same way we look at the Inquisition or the Salem Witch Trials today or even some of the communist revolutions. People will say "It's pretty unbeli

I don't think this is surprising. You can't expect to constantly lambast an entire nation of people and still expect them to treat you favourably. That's not how humans work.

Not if they build garbage well, the quality of the code and the quality of the product are independent.

No, the advice Purdue asked for bankrupted the company. Just like how asking a programmer to build a garbage program doesn’t mean the programmer is trash, it just means the specs are.

Mcks wasn’t asked for advice on ethics, they were asked advice on increasing sales. If you go to a Tattoo artist and ask for a portrait tattooed on your face, it might be gauche as hell, but that didn’t change the fact the artist might’ve d

There’s a difference between a criminal and civil case. Crimes are boolean, civil is proportional in terms of punishment. Nobody is going to jail, so this is a civil case. If you break your neighbour’s car, you pay more if it’s a BMW than i

1. I think that’s making a guess into their intentions which we’re not qualified to do 2. Even if we take #1 for granted, the $500MM figure is still based on something. The counter-party could’ve settled for $100MM or insisted on $1B but th

Except there is, a negotiation is based on the next best alternative; which is the legal system. Mcks wouldn’t have settled for that much if they thought they’d fare better in court.

A $500MM fine is a bit beyond "shame on you for taking dirty money". I doubt any marketing firms working for Purdue was fined $500MM despite contributing to the same outcome. And that's because they didn't have the same

I’d argue that your last statement is a false dichotomy. art, logos and ads are arguably all ideas in themselves. on a side note, i’m surprised this post is being upvoted, the design seems pretty antithetical to the HN ethos.

Love this app. Absolutely check it out if you are serious about keyboard navigation. The only suggestion I’d make is to have the cursor return to its old position after an action. But it’s a minor nitpick.
