Trying to understand the rationale here. So Iran are blocking WhatsApp and other messaging services by blacklisting IPs or filtering the traffic? Is the idea that people will connect to random proxy nodes for signal that will circumvent thi

10 years ago fly.io is the company I wanted to build. Something with massive technical depth that becomes a developer product. They're doing an incredible job and part of that comes down to how they evangelise the product outside of al

I'm more bullish on this runtime than all the others. I personally think this one could promote itself as being embeddable and spread far and wide.

One of the things I wonder here is if it would be easier to just start by crawling known RSS feeds and then exposing a JSON API for the data and making the whole thing open source. Then keeping a public list of indexes and who crawls what.

I'm sold on the future of wasm. What really still bothers me is the effort and hoops I have to jump through to actually leverage it. Networking, just fix networking so I can drop in most things and it would be great. The fact that I ha

As a thought experiment it would be interesting to plot out a strategy to achieve something like this in the west in a way that's totally open.

I did this while working on an OSS project. I used slack starting with just 3 people including myself. It eventually reached 4k members. At that scale it's no longer community but instead a support channel. Keeping groups small or inte

Google employees don't pay for spanner. This is the big difference. You might have quota but you don't actually pay any money for it. No one on the outside world wants to get ripped off for database usage.

Technology behind spanner is incredible but unfortunately marketed horribly and positioned terribly. It was a solution built for large scale enterprise and no one else. It's not worth trying to sell this to developers. They're bet

I'm looking at personal pain first which is really that remote work means losing out on the social aspects of work. I think all the other tools can be built but are undifferentiated. Community for remote work isn't a thing. Or if

Thanks for your comments. The funny thing is, the services are exactly what I wanted to focus on, just felt like you needed to start with community/communication e.g forum/message board first, then start to offer things like task

If you have a #platform team channel don't let that become the place the rest of the company comes and makes unfiltered requests. That's the channel for your team. It's really important to have that boundary, otherwise they d

I wouldn't split the team just because personally I think it'll weaken the concept of the "platform team". Ideally what you want is people with different priorities/focuses within the team. Some on low level ops, ot

So this feels super relevant to me. I'm working on a new community platform for remote work. Would be interested to find out what kind of tooling might help. https://m3o.org

This thread is quite enlightening. It seems the engineering community predominantly would like to be able to self host email (and presumably other services). By proxy of that I guess that email hosting is not just for one user but maybe als

Big for tailscale IMO. Will just drastically increase the footprint of tailscale even when different control servers. Might lead to some form of federation protocol.

Very thoughtfully written. I can see the part at the bottom about breaking the stronghold of Facebook. Ah the lofty dreams. Twitter, Mastadon, etc. Not sure if the dreams will ever become reality but love the idea of a federated micro blogg

This is very interesting, thanks for sharing. We adopted a credit model for our API platform and it's akin to this. I with we were able to do Pay with X as part of that but payments in general are a huge undertaking that requires a lot
