It sound to me like a tightly prescribed strategy of gathering relevant user information. Sounds like short iterations in market research. It doesn't sound like it makes any mention of software engineering.

There exists an astroturf MS campaign to convince people that the cool kids now work at MS. The cool kids being self thought and with spiky orange hair. Like almost all MS advertising it is terribly cheesy. The main point seems to be that a

You also don't learn anything other then going berserk. That's going to work most of the time, unless someone expects it or has a gun/taser, then you're fucked. Krav Maga is not a combat art, it's the Israeli army's psychological training f

Exactly. When you compare youtube comments to anything written 100 years ago you must be tempted to think we've gotten A LOT stupider. But what you have to realize is, that 100 years ago most people couldn't even read or write. But today th

I think there are A LOT of people who are self thought and terrible programmers. But the few that are self thought and great obviously always had extraordinary potential and not getting formal training could never hold them back. 9 our of 1

If I understood that stream of consciousness correctly, and I had to read it twice, I think it's this: 1. To be spectacularly successful you have to be extraordinary. 2. There are no shortcuts. 3. If well directed then intense focus and fre

Diamond is far from the only one to write about tribal killings in Papua New Guinea. That doesn't mean he didn't make it up, but if he did make something up it probably wouldn't be something easily proven wrong.

I'm not sure anything is broken, we just had plain old regulatory capture. Greenspan himself admitted he thought that people would protect their own self interest. But those people get bonuses if their risks pay off and have no real downsid

There is no such thing as "shortages". There may not be enough of something at a price YOU are willing to pay, but that doesn't make it a shortage.

It's a class-cession. People from the less educated lower classes have limited employment opportunities mostly involving physical labor. Men tend to be overrepresented in such jobs, like constructions. And we're in a housing bust.

It's like giving a skydiver a winged suit, so that if his chute fails he can at least glide sideways and down instead of falling straight down, perhaps he can make it to water. I agree with the shovel metaphor when it comes to the attempts

Unless you're both a surgeon and a programmer you probably shouldn't make sweeping statements like that. I'm just a programming but I think a large portion of the bucks surgeons make is due to the expense and duration of medical school.
