The real answer is: introversion. I have a few Finnish friends, and not only are they all introverts, but all their Finnish acquaintances seem to be, too. Finnish social customs reflect this. It would be interesting to figure out why. Finla

Once we understand precisely how music affects the mind, it will be clear what makes the 5th Symphony work, and it will be possible to create its functionality as "the next obvious step". After all, it's not the sequence of notes that matte

That can't be the whole story. A company hiring a roofer can't discriminate on the basis of physical handicap? What if he is in a wheelchair?

Naomi Klein is a hero to Western socialists, second in her hero status perhaps only to Noam Chomsky. She is most certainly against free market capitalism. Your post makes her ideas seem more attractive to me, but I think you're misrepresent

Her main thesis is that free market capitalism is bad. She doesn't try to disprove that free market capitalism is good. Instead, she attacks the character of famous proponents of it, by suggesting that they forced their will upon the unwill

This is an ad hominem attack on the free market. "It wasn't born in freedom and democracy", therefore it must be bad. She makes the laughable assumption that the majority of people know what's good for them. 2004 election proves otherwise.

I'm not sure about small, but a site definitely doesn't have to be narrow to not suck. Old Reddit wasn't narrow, and it lasted for some time. Where did this meme even come from?

Those aren't very good sources. Amazon links are all weight-loss-oriented "pop" diet books. The genre is notorious for being full of inaccurate and misleading stuff. On that other site, the author's other books include Natural Cure of Cance

Do you have a source for that? The logic seems backwards. Per calorie absorbed, it takes more effort to digest uncooked foods, not less. Some fresh foods, like lettuce, actually take more energy to digest than you get out of them.

How about a culture of violence and thievery? That takes decades of sustained effort to change, if not centuries. The things you've listed are merely symptoms. Saying that some 3rd world countries want to fail is like saying that endangered
