So if they send up a starship with a hypothetical "compute rack", you wouldn't need all the redundant antennas, rf amplifiers, discrete solar panels, etc. You'd need just one of each sufficient for the whole rack, rest c

I think if the department was sufficiently insulated from electeds it would be fine. I am on municipal water and power and it is quite cheap and pragmatic. It is very isolated from the bullshit in city hall though which helps it a ton. The

They can't make them a little bit bigger? But also I found this interesting image on the scale at hand here of a given launch of starlinks, no clue how many are included in a single launch, and it is a substantial amount of rack space

You need to use everything at your disposal. Wait for the planets to align and the tea leaves to indicate good success. Don't apply until the chicken bones suggest a good time for someone with your constitution. You are going up agains

Why, because on board storage is too small and the compute nodes are underpowered? And that can't ever change? A reasonable person doesn't understand technology usually. That is increasingly an understanding left to the wizard cla

I know there are 4th estate implications, but there's probably an argument made that news media should be a municipal endeavor supported through taxation. Yes there is public corruption all the time but usually it isn't a grand co

There is still good journalism going on but it is seldom read as it can't afford to promote itself like the propaganda empowered by capital. In LA, we have LA TACO for example. But they don't have much staff, so they don't ev

It has been trying to do that for 25 years. It is hard when on one hand you have people seeking truth and not trying to fleece you, and on the other hand there is actual propaganda that is not caring about the truth and trying to fleece you

You don't have to use tidy verse. I never reached for it since base R does it all already. I write in a functional approach though and I understand a lot of pythonistas and others prefer the object oriented approach. R written in a fun

I agree. There has never been anything in tidyverse I couldn't do in base R. Usually a lot cleaner in base R. People complain about plotting in base R, really? It is just a function call with supplied arguments. It is super straight fo

By definition it is compute nodes in space. That is what a router is, a computer. Just a matter of scale. They could be improved to more compute and more storage per node. The framework is already there: treat these as disposable vs having

You don't stick a portable AC unit in the window. The unit sits inside. You just run vent hoses out the window for the compressor. Opening sideways also shouldn't matter for a casement AC unit.

That doesn't matter for portable AC. Most people build a plexiglass or foamboard plug for the open window. Some products are sold already set up like this. If you can fit a casement AC that also probably doesn't matter. You can pr

I have a skinny tall window unit. It is called a casement unit. Pretty small market though at least in the US, only a few makes and models in comparison to the plethora of traditionally sized window units.

People don't value design that cools. Most all the spanish style houses you see in California, if you go back to photos from when they were built in the 1920s they all had awnings over all the windows. Those awnings are basically extin
