I disagree with that take generally. What is the difference between say a UK garden suburb and a new build suburb outside dallas? The commuter rail station really. UK suburbs are similarly labyrinthine. But actually, the dallas suburbs have

Indeed. After all, roads predate the car by thousands of years. But still, often roads are overbuilt and their potential capacity is never close to being reached. The bog standard suburban design we see in america for example is generally s

Any chemical bond is a potential source of energy. Plenty of sources of potential energy too able to be converted to work.

Sure, and it infests the little free 'libraries' you see scattered around the neighborhood and often the shelves in the Goodwill, but a good used bookstore and a good public library system will do a bit of filtering on that. These

Reference material is one thing. But literature is pretty timeless. And there are used bookstores and public libraries.

Conscious probabilistic thinking is perhaps more demanding of energy. But all animals engage in subconscious probabilistic thinking. That gut feeling you have for example is your inner bayesian logic refined from millions of years of natura

The freedom of loosely moderated minecraft was amazing back in the day. I traded hats all the time between being a shameless griefer or actual contributor to community projects. I remember one server far away from spawn had a growing 1:1 im

When apps took off they weren't really making use of any of that either. Top apps back then were either using the standard ux libraries, or they were something like a simulated beer pint. Rehashing of popular flash and flip phone games

Pretty much every single feature added in the early days (and later) of ios was simply copying what was popular on cydia. That well started to run dry as they got better at whack a moleing jailbreaking exploits, severely contracting that co

The calculator argument is interesting because I am for sure slower at arithmetic by hand than when I was in gradeschool able to rattle off times tables and long division and what not, due to calculator use. I know plenty of other people wh

On this forum? You are probably one of the few. I hate the way mobile browsers handle tabs with no control over forcing a reload and losing state. I prefer the desktop. I prefer my treestyle tabs. I am hardly on the phone as a result.

There are examples on github from the beforetimes (preai). I made my own little version with a basic ui in python a couple years ago. Works pretty good. Best to pull the powertab or guitar pro tab versions though and open in tuxguitar. Here

This is probably true in the consumer facing software space. But in business, industry, and academia, often there are novel data generated by some new or refined process. And this needs new software that correctly handles both the nature of

Massive ongoing investment into roads. EV incentives that would pay for 3-4 ebikes outright. Big 3 bailout. Cash for clunkers. Impact fees from developers towards roads. As others said parking requirements. There is so much beyond that too.

It isn’t a flat fee per se, if only because wealthier people are too prideful. Rich man buys a 100k mercedes. Poor man buys that mercedes 15 or 20 years later for 3k. It still does what it did when it cost 100k.
