Without looking into this further, a lot of smaller manufacturers license standard designs from chinese companies as a base. I don't know if that's the case here, but it's one explanation. This is obviously not a good option

The pinephone keyboard is nice, I don't think it's terribly clunky IMO (and I have had an N900), although it would have been even better if some of the control keys were shoulder buttons.

if you introduce a key that can decrypt all messages, what you have is not end to end encryption. Then you might as well just not do end-to-end, since the service provider can read all messages using the key they gave the police anyway

In germany, you can own a gun for sport or hunting. However, you are not legally allowed to carry it with you, except when going to and from that activity. It's also not a "walk into a store and buy one" situation, but if you

I think skin in the game is the big one, much moreso than manpower. I use a lot of things that are probably mostly one-person projects, but if that person poured their love and time into it, it seems unlikely they'd permanently tarnish

how so? if a word is bold in a sentence, you want it to be bold in the translation without having to split the sentence up (which will fail as soon as there is more than one formatted word)

I haven't kept up with what happened since the original controversy, but at the time it was about telemetry in dev builds (i.e. building from the repo) only. In any case it doesn't have spyware unless you think firefox and various

I haven't used mint in ages (I used LMDE for a long time though, exactly because it was rolling release), but back in the day at least, the official upgrade procedure was basically "just reinstall lol", maybe it changed now
