The reverse is true though. If a non-right of way is used as one for long enough then it can be designated as one. This is why landowners instead designate them as permissive paths and close them for one day per year.

The UK foreshore is owned by the Crown, except for some cases where it has been sold off. These are the minority though. If anyone else owns this it's likely to be the Ministry of Defence.

Yes, but my point is that it isn't an example of the US adopting a standard. It's the US just happening to have chosen the more popular of two arbitrary options.

Left vs right hand drive is a poor comparison. The choice is entirely arbitrary, and nobody can seriously say that one is "better".

Have half a litre then. Speaking as someone from the only country that legally mandates beer in both pints (on draught) and metric (in bottles), I prefer a (UK, 20oz) pint if I'm drinking, because it's larger and I'm thirsty.

If they didn't intend it, they were being incredibly naive. If your defining characteristic is that you don't censor things that are banned on Reddit, then your site is only attractive to people who want to do things banned on Red

They don't "have more freedom in this area": they're not bound by it at all. They can ban whatever they want from their own platforms.

Almost none of those 400k people are dying in Europe or the US though. They're dying in poor countries, mostly in Africa.

Pumped hydro has an efficiency of around 80%, which is similar to lithium ion batteries. They also have massive capacity. The downside is that there aren't many places where they can be built.

In the US, iMessage is the most important app for lock-in. I wonder how much of the reason for lower iPhone market share outside the US is down to the fact iMessage is far less widely used by Apple users, who instead use cross platform apps

Magstripe readers were ubiquitous in the UK 15 years ago. The banks started issuing chip and PIN cards and terminals, then did the liability shift a couple of years later. That shift is what's needed to make retailers switch, and is wh

It doesn't talk about technical features because it's about the macroeconomic features (unsurprisingly, as Varoufakis is an economist). He criticises it because it removes the ability of central banks to sharply increase the money

It's certainly comparable, and does compete with O365. Legally, a monopoly doesn't mean it has no competitors, just that it dominates the market.

Office 365 is more of a monopoly than Windows now. This kind of bundling and cross-subsidy is classic monopoly abuse, and is almost identical to the IE case.

Even if they were both open standards it wouldn't affect this. The issue here is pricing, and specifically bundling. There's no way anyone can compete fairly when Teams is bundled with a seperate monopoly product.

Whether or not they actually welcomed competition, this lawsuit is perfectly consistent with that letter. The allegation is that MS is engaging in anti-competitive behaviour.

I met my now wife on OkCupid in 2005, and while not necessarily holding a stigma it would certainly raise comment. By 2010 it was no longer weird, and by 2015 not even worth mentioning.
