One can spend an enjoyable afternoon re-implementing some of these using the equivalent of lisp's cons as a node: let node = (a,b) => (bool) => bool?a:b; It's a fun little exercise to also keep the rest of the functio

I had the one PC in that era that WinME was smooth sailing on. It was a Packard Bell with a 200mhz Pentium 1 (96 mb of ram at the time, i think). For whatever reason, and combination of hardware, ME had no issues running. I had less blue sc

I am very concerned about the future of jobs and workers. Our capitalistic society is salivating at the idea of cheapening the cost of production by eliminating all the creative and generative work that workers make. The capitalist class do

I kinda wonder what is gonna happen to them when they reach end of life. Knowing the history of these kinds of things, they will be left to rot and dangle in the fields they were planted.

As a kid that grew up on the south plains (Texas panhandle). I have a love hate relationship with those windmills. On the one hand it's neat seeing all that green power generation. On the other, it does ruin the landscape to some exten

There are dozens of us! I have a 9 year old laptop, and 3 in use desktops that are between 9 and 10 years old. Once you have 4 cores and 16+ gigs of ram, it's hard to need any more performance in typical day to day tasks.

I imagine there is opportunity, but it's gonna be for a big company like Amazon, and essentially be a modern Sears. A place where you can go in and buy now, get it if it's there otherwise it's delivered.

I have been on a tear lately returning numerous Amazon orders. Often due to incorrect descriptions or being sent broken items. A recent "favorite" of mine was while trying to order a keyboard wrist rest, the first one arrived fold

I didn't want to spoil the fun of all those road signs telling about the free 72oz steak in Amarillo. (Those signs start popping up outside of Oklahoma City and Albuquerque) If you're lucky you will see someone attempting the chal

If you're near it, go see it, just to say you did. Then do yourself a favor, go have lunch at The Big Texan Steakhouse, to admire the 72oz steaks. That said, not sure why you were out there to begin with. Maybe you were out admiring th

For me the biggest failure of all the VR headsets is there is no demo units at big box store and the lack of a TV app to see what the user is doing. People don't want to blindly buy an unproven expensive gaming system without trying it

Shooting film is a different skill. You really need to have experience with the medium to understand how it performs and when to use it. Film has a long expensive feedback loop, with limited exposures, processing time, and associated costs;

Where do those creative bits come from? Often the creative bits come out of the struggle to do the work. If you get rid of the struggle, then you also get rid of the motivation for their creation.

It would help in having some sort of body that says, we want to have humans involved in the chain of responsibility when creating code and not willfully hand over the control to AI.

It's too bad programmers don't also have some sort of licensure as well. It would be helpful in keeping humans employed in creating and maintaining code, instead of letting AI run off with all our jobs.

I'm increasingly frustrated by the amount of people willing to give up control of their own thought processing. At what point do you decide, I'm good enough and don't need to improve, I'll make the AI do it for me!

This just complicates things if you have any kind of complex nesting. Something "simple" like: a(b(),c(),d(e(),f(g()))) Turns into the following: value |> b() |> a( %, c() , v2 |> e() |> d(%, v1 |> g()
