That's not what "dated" means in this context. It means the artifact is stuck in its time period and not well suited for the modern era. So if the Matrix is still awesome, then it's not dated.

Great design stands the test of time. e.g. TrueType fonts from that era are still used today. (Actually the designs of many of those fonts are substantially older than their TrueType implementations.) These icons haven't aged well IMO.
