correction? IIUC from that link, America produced as much oil in a day as Japan in a year. --- Japan produced about 2.7 million barrels of oil domestically. The domestic wells were located at Akita, Niigata and Nutsu. This was about 0.1 per

I agree!!! this is my pet peeve as well, and I sometimes fantasize about ripping into PostgreSQL and adding column-minus. One wrinkle: computed columns would interfere with query optimization. That said (and here I speak heresy) there are t

I like this framework. I sometimes think about it as producing versus consuming although that's very different than this framework and I like this framework even better.

While we're at it, let's add staff to "checkout" code from source control. :-)

Good point, hasn't seen this but makes sense. Obviously both JWO and SC depend on credit cards being accepted.

The selection is directly tied to the JWO technology which almost by definition gets confused by brands whose product line labels (e.g. flavors) are too similar, which is the common case not the exception. Sure, they have the same price but

Meh - I was excited by JWO but it now looks like self-checkout will win because it works pretty well these days, and it handles all the corner cases including product sold by weight, large items, identical-looking items (common in grocery),

Upright city bike (rented). I love riding bikes and it's very easy for me, but still not as "open" as scooters e.g. getting on/off.

Just now: 10,000 steps plus a scooter ride passed the boring parts of downtown which I'd already seen. Just ordered Persian food at a tiny place in a cute neighborhood there's no way I'd have walked to, and not on the subway

Good point. But in my experience scooting was always paired with a lot of walking as well. Put another way, scooting is the "skip to the next track" of walking.

I recently discovered scooters (lime, bird, etc), and have to say that they now compete with walking for me. upsides versus walking: - 10x further distances - 10 blocks feels like 1, it's simply amazing. You can see parts of the city

Crazy idea: could there be a neural net to help naming ? Ideally, it looks at your code and your makeshift name, and suggests other names to consider.

Argumentation via hyperbole. The US lost in Vietnam and Afghanistan, so what. There's zero indication that nuclear weapons are relevant. 80,000 casualties in 140 days is shocking and unsustainable for Russia. If western accounts are co
