I actually fall into a similar category. I fell for their advertising, too (a man can dream...), but it's definitely clear to me that this really is a toy and not really practical for much. Definitely not practical for most (all?) of t

Awesome post. It's great to see a top comment on HN that isn't hugely disagreeing with the article in a (perhaps borderline) disrespectful way. Furthermore, I agree that often times the best way to go about doing things is being r

Scott actually had some good thoughts about D_Wave at some point. A year or so ago, D-Wave actually gave him a personal tour of the place, and convinced him that they were legitimately doing good research (He wrote about this in his blog:

Awesome Compilation. I had the suspicion that a lot of the higher-ups were IIT grads, but I never looked into it. (Not that that's a bad thing, but it's interesting). Is there a very pro-google culture in India? Does Google recrui

Ouch, looks like you are taking a lot of slack for this --- don't worry, I didn't realize the protocol for Russian Roulette was not to spin again after the first attempt, either. You're right if they spun it again afterwards, they are right

I don't know much about this, but you might not want to have your e-mail address so easily formatted for a bot, right? You might get a lot of spam soon?

Dumb question: let's say I want to link gchat with twitter, and all the text after "tweet " I send to the zapier bot I want to be tweeted. Naively, I set things up (pretty easily, too!) to tweet ALL of the text I sent to the zapier bot. Is

I wasn't a CS major while there, but I did take a few CS classes. Those classes, in particular, are top notch, and a lot of time was clearly spent on at least the intro classes (the first 3-4 classes you may take). The classes are very well

This is great to see! Of course, this stuff isn't easy to jump into, but I recommend checking out some of the free online courses for something good. Coursera once had a quantum computer course (!) taught by a pretty famous guy in the field

For the record, this is also true for every quantum computer in existence. What is clear though, is that quantum computers have already solved problems in fewer steps than classical computers. And to be fair, it's going to take a while to b

I think the fact of the matter is simply this: at some point in one's career in physics, when you make a decision between being an experimentalist and theorist, you don't spend nearly as much time focusing on the theory. I don't think it's

I'm surprised this isn't getting at least a few more upvotes, but I think it's an article that lays down a lot of facts and doesn't just lay down a couple and them embellishes them with some strong subjectivity. Does anyone have a solution

I don't think sending an e-mail is the right way to get this info out to them. Honestly though, do we really think that they don't know most, if not all, of this? I think that a lot of it is quite nit-picky, and in the scheme of things, whe
