If your considering writing your application in something like C, C++, Rust or Go, then I would these days consider wrapping it in a Flutter / Dart CLI that consumed it via FFI. Reach out if you want to discuss.

What I find interesting is the cultural reaction of the USA compared to others. Others see UFOs as phenomena to be observed and investigated, while the USA sees them as threats to national security.

Does Standard Notes require a network connection to store data, or is data stored locally and synced when a network connection is available? I wonder how important (offline) local first storage of data is these days to users of these types

I think that Java is more like “concrete” than dirt. Fairly gray, unexciting and utilitarian, but nevertheless much of the world is reliably built on it.

My thoughts are that programming is easy. After all an average 8 year old can do it. What is hard is modeling large, complex problems and systems in code, that meets its functional and non-functional requirements. The superior “programmer

The classic use case for generics is when creating Abstract Data Types. Implementing stacks, queues, dynamic arrays etc of differing Types is made relatively simple using generics.

Surely a radical viewpoint against the (current) state of the art in software architecture? Why swim against a tide of industry “best practice” that says ... ... Lets make our application into many communicating distributed applications. Wh

The end of the 1940s gave us the subroutine. A means through which one could encapsulate some functionality into a named construct that could be called (reused) throughout a program. It’s a construct available for a programmer to use. DRY

A viewpoint that complex systems that need to be modeled into code can all be reduced to a formal (mathematical) construct of a programming type system. I contend that the majority of complex software systems are not transformative proces

Thank you so much for sharing this. My first thoughts were that you dove into what you could control. Those aspects of the product related to non-functional requirements. However, it’s really the functional requirements that primarily count

Congratulations on the release! My experience is that most supposed implementations of DDD are problematic because the focus is on the infrastructure, plumbing and implementation, rather than on the real challenge which is modeling a comple

I wonder whether software ends up being complex, because the building blocks used by most programmers are simply insufficient to model complex systems. Those building blocks are procedures, subroutines, control statements and modules/s

Well it’s come full circle for me. 40 years ago I started as a professional programmer. The big issue at the time was how to represent business logic, other than as stored procedures.

Thanks for the great response! I may be wrong, but it seems your design architecture is similar to “structured design”. Where you model data, and alongside that the transformations to be performed on that data. Traditionally this might have

> When you use an interface, you are a user. It’s an interesting perspective. I guess by extension, that the use of a programming language, makes the programmer a user of the resultant program, and the language a “user interface”?

I don’t really agree with the premise. The core logic of a program can (optionally) interact with humans and/or other systems. With neither, one is left with a “run to completion” program that typically transforms its OS supplied input

Peter Coad did write a number of books, which are pretty old and likely out of print. How to actually model a complex system into an object oriented domain model, is something I have long thought to teach. However, sadly there seems little
