In the presence of each and every person living in an industrialized society are multiple devices running embedded software that is difficult to modify. Those devices are programmed using more flexible systems which to this very second are

When reading this keep in mind that the Mac was still a skunkworks project inside of Apple when Jobs attempted to institute a uniform policy. Some of the comments have suggested this doesn't jive with the "Think Different" ethos he pushed.

Maybe . Why is it so hard to imagine a world where we have both? I don't use Google's dedicated iOS app because www.google.com happens to load just fine in Mobile Safari. I do use the iOS Maps application because maps.google.com doesn't

The likelihood of Apple giving Sprint an exclusive to their newest device this late in the game (ie, they're not an unknown quantity like they were in 2007) is highly unlikely. Where one to entertain this crazy notion though the reasoning c

I, for one, am astonished at quality and release frequency Jon Skinner (the author of Sublime Text 2) has been able to achieve. Perhaps he has help, but that doesn't appear to be the case. He has made steady, incremental, and visible progre

The documentation isn't terrible, but it is certainly lacking. After it escapes beta I imagine things will progress in the documentation department.

Which Mac-centric 5by5 podcast are you talking about? If it's "The Talk Show" keep in mind that John Gruber used to work for Bare Bones Software (the makers of BBEdit), so take his recommendation with a grain of salt. I'll repeat myself fro

Amazing how this is so similar and yet so different from an Apple announcement. Jeff Bezos is incredibly smart and a great CEO, but when it comes to presentation he's no Steve Jobs.

Contrast the TextMate situation to that of Sublime Text. Jon Skinner has done an amazing job of shipping something compelling early, updating it often, developing out in the open and giving his customers a good reason to buy the product eve

Listen, I'm no fan of Facebook but this article is pure flame-bait. Death by a thousand paper cuts may be a fun way to look at how Facebook could eventually bite the dust, but I think it's simpler. Eventually companies are going to figure o
