And given how unlikely people are in the wider non-technical audience to god-forbid, run a command line program, I guess they really just don't care. They do take easily accessible apps that use youtube-dl under the hood pretty serious

No they cannot. Music videos that aren't on Youtube don't generate much in the way of traffic anywhere else. Artists have tried it and failed. They absolutely need eachother and can't afford to be nasty to eachother.

Well, nothing other than certificate revocation server performing poorly has got to do anything with certificate revocation server performing poorly per se. None of your comments or mine for that matter. What is your point? We're discu

Unfortunately, there kinda is. This is what Tim Cook said about govt agencies wanting a backdoor - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZmeZyDGkQ0 - right around 4:25. When I buy an Apple product, this is part of what I think A

Yes. Verbatim that's what it says. But I think we can safely assume from context that the author meant external dependencies mandated by Apple.

> It comes down to an argument of trust - do you trust Apple is acting in your best interests, or do you believe they're a malevolent entity? I'll just leave this here - https://stallman.org/apple.html

Honestly, THIS! Apple used this same argument when talking about security agencies - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZmeZyDGkQ0 . You may trust them now. But what's to say they'll remain the good guys forever? By

That may be true. But Apple themselves started us down the path of zero trust. This is what I was promised - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZmeZyDGkQ0 This isn't what Apple is doing. If we're to take Apple'

Honestly, this is the right answer. Apple makes sure iOS apps don't ask for anymore permissions than they need. Google doesn't really care. That is the ONLY major difference. If you're mindful of what apps are asking for what

youtube-dl doesn't "hack" into Youtube. The process isn't anything that you can't do manually using chrome dev tools.

Nonetheless, the underlying point holds. If youtube didn't want people downloading it's videos, it's trivial from them to close that up.

The same argument can be made for video that's also publicly available. Not to mention, youtube has it's own Download function in the mobile apps, even for copyrighted content. So there's that.

While I agree with the point, a strong case can be made that the music video in the README and the test case were a poor choice. A silly home video, preferably uploaded by the maintainers themselves would've just given RIAA's clai

RIAA definitely does go after Google. They file countless DMCA takedowns on videos that re-upload content from official accounts. Unlike Napster, Google just complies and hence doesn't have much of a case against it like Napster did.

My app is still very much a monolith. It's just plain ol' django templates with turbolinks (so, pretty snappy to load pages). Tailwind's @apply + Django template partials give you a component-like workflow fairly easily. And

Given that DDG uses the Bing API, would it really be insurance enough? What it would do is give Microsoft all the leverage they need to negotiate (Give us a cheaper rate or use our API and pay us a similar rate?).
