I have only heard second hand, but internally Uber has always had a large litter of tools. There is always a little bit chaos edited out from what is presented to the outside world. They run several container schedulers (YARN, Mesos, Myriad

I am always reminded of this story around throughput metrics for Software Engineering: https://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?story=Negative_2000_Li... Your suggestion is delightful, and in a former company, one of our PMs,

From my experience, it was pretty speedy even on some (relatively) large datasets. The decoupling of compute and storage makes it appealing compared to Redshift if you have bursty load on your cluster.

It depends what the OP call core math competency. If you mean the ability to solve and think critically about problems, I like a combination of "How to solve it" by Pólya ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_

I am not sure how the people at Hinckley, or more recently at Flint would take that assertion. Just because tracking causality of morbidity to drinking water can be a difficult task does not mean it has no contribution to health issues.

For fraud, not usually, but you would have to prove fraud. For any other reasons most banks/credit card companies put limits between 30 days and a year I believe.

Illegal downloads surely had an impact in the 2000s era, but I think by now the amount of freely streamable content is by far the largest factor.

It is more of an introduction but I enjoyed 7 databases in 7 weeks from the pragmatic bookshelf ( https://pragprog.com/book/rwdata/seven-databases-in-seven-we... ). I have also learned a lot from Aphyr's Jepsen

The main feature which jumps out at me, I think it schedules on a single node, where Airflow can orchestrate across multiple nodes. Airflow is also starting to implement more enterprise-y features, like role-based access control, which shou

I think a lot of people are considering it. The ideas behind Apache Beam are supposed to make the transition easier, with the ability to run in either mode. I think in practice it really depends on your use case. For a large enough amount o

With a little bit of work you could probably trigger tasks on a Windows Machine, in particular if the work you need to do is mostly script and/or SQL based. The main limit is that Gunicorn for the Airflow webserver is not currently com

I tend to agree with the overall sentiment of the article. Jupyter is doing a tremendous job for reproducibility and easeof sharing. It does not feel as good for writing though. I like the Rmarkdown [1] files (successor to latex and sweave)
