I initially felt similar. But once I realized that Seveneves is actually two RPG novels [1] it gets much better. Part 1 & 2 are universe backstory. Like the Horus Heresy in 40k or the story of Lilith in Vampire. Part 3 is just to advanc

My son's a little shy of 3, which is clearly too young to actually learn programming. But I wanted him to at least know some of the concepts like "computers talk in zeros and ones". Also nothing beats coming home and having y

As someone who's only hired freelancers through Upwork, something I really like was that they required I pay them every week. Once the first payment went through the freelancer knew I was legitimate. It also made it easier for me to bu

I was hoping this article was going to be a serious look at if an AI could run on a currency like Ethereum. A few months back I wrote a tongue in cheek version about if the DAO hack was to prevent the singularity [1]. But I'd be curiou

I ended up getting fat and a few health issues working at a unicorn start up. It took me 18 months to realize how badly I was handling it. Correcting for that work culture required a decent about of self reflection and introspection, that w

Thank you. The article is treating the NYT bestseller list as sacrosanct. Someone figured a (relatively) cheap way to hack it. Good for them. As someone who just published a children's book if I thought this would work I would try it.

I wrote a children's picture book "The ABCs of Programming" to explain what I do to my toddler. Previously I was telling him "Daddy talks to robots". Hasn't made much money yet, but I launched only this week.

Agreed. Assuming he's salaried and not hourly there's no argument in my mind that he should feel required to tell them. If he's hourly I'd say it might be a gray area.

I feel like keeping a journal/working notes is an underused tool by most programmers. It's amazing how often I think. "What was that bash command I used 9 months ago" or " What project was I working on 2 years ago.
