When it comes to integration, efficiency isn’t the most important quality attribute (“ility”). Having the interfaces be easily used by humans manually is more important. It’s why http1 has been dominant for so long… it’s easy for humans to

Im revisiting technical interview prep because it has been awhile and it seems like a good time for a refresher, and it is striking how similar it all is to SAT and GMAT prep these days. A pretty cookie-cutter performance that is mostly ab

The system dynamics[1] view here would be that complex dynamic system behavior tends to be dominated by feedback loops; and once identified let you ignore many of the other factors. And the trick is to figure out ways to introduce or activa

Presumably it is going to be easier for increasingly smaller and smaller teams to make highly polished, scalable and stable products that will be appealing and addictive and resonate more with their users than whatever Meta can come up with

What are these fired programmers going to do? Disappear? They’ll build stuff, using the same plus-up AI tooling that enabled their old boss to fire them. So guess what, their old boss just traded employees for competitors. Congrats, I guess

“I am doing it again now” is the operative phrase here I think. I’ve found LLMs are quite good helping me build things much better and faster in this case. Maybe not so much for stuff I haven’t done before and don’t really quite know what I

My cordless beard trimmer doesn’t run when plugged in, so you have to wait for it to charge before using it. When getting ready in the morning, you can’t sit around for an hour waiting for it to charge enough to function. It makes no sense.

I agree, a frozen moment in time is special. But it also doesn’t quite capture subtleties that require the time dimension… e.g.; a quirky speech pattern that was a constant for a year or two but then just disappeared.

Great tips in here! And I know this isn’t about videos… but, don’t forget about videos. I love taking pictures. In particular, candid moment-capturing portraits that reveal something about the subject. Also, technically challenging ones wit

Can’t believe it’s been a decade since I built this stuff… but I used to enjoy recreating futuristic UIs from movies. Tons of fun, wish I had time and energy for this type of play still. E.g. https://github.com/arscan/e

I have great trouble writing good descriptions of products I build at work (I’m in software). Often I find there are just too many possible ways for me to describe the thing that I get stuck… and inevitably end up with descriptions that sim

I recently purchased tickets via SeatGeek and was provided a link to one of these barcodes, which accepted as a querystring parameter an access token that seemingly had a long expiration attached to it. It was hosted on “downloadmytickets.c

Been a few decades, but I was in a similar situation and came up with a similar approach. Run the select first and then swap in an update or delete. If the query was somewhat involved to determine what to delete, I’d write the select query

I have a similar need but for the FHIR[1] spec, which has its own way of describing RESTful http endpoints that serve FHIR data. I was looking into how this works for inspiration, and it seems like the work of inferring the OpenAPI definiti

I did that for the exact same problem on the same model car earlier this year, but gave up after trying a few places that all said the same thing (including the dealer). Glad to see this post though… now I know I’m not the crazy one.

Great job, this is a fun concept that is well executed. I was going to add Geocities, but I was surprised to find out that it is still available in Japan. Anyone have insight as to why Yahoo kept it alive in that market?

I used browserify to bundle in Three.js and all the other dependencies. Yes, it's an embarrassingly large JS package. There are probably better ways of doing this, but being a weekend project I decided that it wasn't worth my ti

I think this is in reaction to the confusion over Model 3 being the "next version" of the Model S. People might be holding off on buying the S because they think that the 3 is better. https://twitter.com/elonmusk&
