Please source the 4,000 number properly: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29422105 As I point out in my other comment, you cannot interpret that number in any to imply as though we ever actually had those 4,000 beds.

Could you source that claim? I’m comparing the numbers from the DIVI registry: 2020-12-02: https://edoc.rki.de/handle/176904/7522 2021-12-02: https://edoc.rki.de/handle/176904/9047 I’m g

No country in the world has the capacity to take care of more than “a couple thousand” ICU patients (well, it’s more like a couple of ten thousand ICU patients for the best equipped and richest large countries in the world, like Germany). S

Is that a reasonable expectation to have? It‘s funny, when I started reading your text I first assumed that “so gross a misrepresentation that your average person would have a completely different view of the reality of the situation“ was a

Didn’t even imply it. The criticism is pretty clear: even though this was obviously a problem it wasn’t addressed for decades. That’s the point. There is no talk about the initial design.

This boss isn’t well meaning at all. They expect people (unlike what you said) to actually read all messages right away, no matter the time. Because, as they also say, sometimes it might be appropriate to respond right away (“Or it could me

Sure, but you don’t want to do that. Nuclear is monstrously expensive already. For it to have any chance of being economically viable at all you have to run it all the time. It doesn’t make sense as an on-demand power source.

Gas and nuclear can’t replace each other. So that instead I’m your sentence is completely misplaced. We certainly need gas in the short term. Sure. But you can’t let nuclear take over the role of gas (and other potential on demand power sou

With renewables baseline doesn’t make sense. Nuclear doesn’t combine well with renewables, not in a way that would complete the picture. Meaning: you can’t build something that works with only those two building blocks. Even more: baseline

As others said, all bus partners. That’s also one reason why they could survive the pandemic relatively unscathed. They could scale down their networks pretty well and pretty quickly, for a long time down to zero. Sucks for the bus partners

I think the problem is much rather that for anyone not poor late fees just don’t matter in any way financially. They do not cut into any basic needs, they don’t even matter in the grand scheme of things. The thing with being poor is that an

That’s probably less of a problem than you think it is. Historically it’s more likely than not that promises are kept. (That this isn’t the case is mostly dumb propaganda.) The biggest wrinkle to this is that Germany has coalition governmen

That’s the wrong framing. Vaccines have several effects. Frequently they prevent you from getting serious symptoms (or any symptoms at all) after contact with the virus. Often they reduce the time span during which you are infectious, somet
