A decade ago, Python being widely used in Google and the creator of Python being employed by the company was a big endorsement for the language. Now Python is quite mainstream. Actually, Guido was allowed to devote 50% of his time at Google

To a certain extent, isn't SOA trying to be a more business savy model of enterprise APIs?

Thanks for the update and for creating such an indispensable tool. Regarding your last line, is there any plans to integrate South into Django mainline code in the near future? Is there a place to read the philosophy or roadmap for this?

Flash is still a great platform for developing games while HTML5 catches up in terms of a consistent cross platform experience. However I find the open source development tools to be much more convenient. For e.g. FlashDevelop is an excelle

The article might be a brilliant bit of satire but many young parents can actually relate to it. Children are exposed to interactive toys like tablets at such a young age that traditional toys like a Kaleidoscope barely holds their interest

I think the article stays away from a criticism of C++ as a language (being politically correct, perhaps?). Despite knowing most of the answers to the interview questions in the article, I think I wouldn't call myself an expert C++ programm

I was trying to extend AbstractUser with just one extra field and realised that it was not easy. But then you are correct that it is how rest of Django works.

Creating the admin part for the new User model is quite a bit of work. You will have to not only create a new ModelAdmin but also create new forms and/or views for all the CRUD operations.

The target audience for a CMS and a Framework are quite different. CMS is aimed at the end-user while frameworks are for programmers. This is significant if you look at the popular languages for CMSes like PHP or ASP. In these languages you

I have found Inkscape to be quite an under-appreciated tool. It is much easier to learn than Illustrator for a beginner, quite light on systems resources and has great keyboard shortcuts. Earlier when there was a logo to be designed I used

The Microsoft Word example is not entirely accurate. Most office application are in fact having well defined interfaces through OLE [1]. This works in several languages like Perl, VB, Delphi or Python. [1]: http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/perl/wo

It would be interesting to compare this with another author's experience [1] using Sphinx. He also notes that EPUB and MOBI outputs are more challenging than PDF ones. [1]: http://pedrokroger.net/2012/10/using-sphinx-to-write-books/

This list proves nothing. C++ is often used for performance reasons or even as a target language. Facebook's HipHop compiler converts PHP into C++. I would argue that it means that Facebook develops in PHP rather than C++. Similarly Adobe's

Microsoft has a history of maintaining backward compatibility even at the expense of a less clean design. In that context, bringing back the start button sounds very plausible.

With Lua JIT being one of the fastest dynamic language implementations and having none of the 'ugly parts' of Javascript, the project sure sounds promising. Less than one-tenth of Node's memory usage makes it even better.
