This looks super interesting. I'm not that familiar with vector databases. I thought they were mostly something used for RAG and other AI-related stuff. Seems like a topic I need to delive into a bit more.

I wouldn't put an .envrc file in source control. This seems like an anti-pattern. I think it should be standard practice that you can pull and run a project without configuring environment variables. I agree with that. The defaults sho

I'm all for creativity but laying devil's advocate,.. who is this supposed creativity for? If the majority of people just want to scan headlines efficiently and read/parse.. isn't that a good thing for most people? Pragm

It would be pretty slick if the export also included a versioned text spec defining the schema for the data.. So even if the software and all supporting software is no longer available you can still make something to read the data.. This is

I score low in all categories. I wonder if that means I'm just not very aware of how I think while I'm not doing it. I think a lot though. A little bit too much I wonder if the quiz is missing questions / scoring around thoug

Often when trying to improve a complex system, the best way to gain new insights and approaches is to just make a branch or even a clean project and try to redo a thing. Even if it doesn't end up in the project often you'll get id

To me this article is super valid for most software projects. As for the Netscape anecdote, I wouldn't put too much weight on that part. We do not know the extent of it, we do not know if it achieved its goals, and we absolutely can no

When it comes to a whole application rewrite, I'm pretty certain you should at least be much closer to "never ever rewrite" than "in some cases rewriting makes sense" If you are talking about refactoring or changing

Usually, the ast can be converted to code, then formatted using a specific formatter. I'm sure slack has a particular code formatter they use. Most of the time when working with an AST you don't think about whitespace except when

Another benefit of having stable identies / surrogate primary keys is that any relations (FKs) will be much simpler. Sure, like the post poster you replied to is pointing out, you _can_ use natural keys, and then also relying on dates

Now I appreciate the forward-thinking mode of the comment. That being said, the comment makes a lot of glaring assumptions - such as: a) most teams/apps/projects want to switch to using server-side react (?) b) the reason they hav

for 99% of teams out there, react is not the V in an MVC pattern. In most cases it's a stand alone project and basically is your framework - your model is an API call from react, and react is also the controller.

This is ambiguously stepping into "overly general / building for the future" territory. Perhaps that is not what you meant. There is a fine line where I do agree with you. Cases such as creating a relation table for categorie
