Wait a second. I mean it's nice and all that LastPass was being overly cautious. But how reassuring is it that they noticed an anomaly but weren't able to figure out what it was? And this is a serious question, as I'm no expert in the fie

I bought a GeekDesk a number of months back. At first I would adjust from sitting to standing from time to time. In the end I bought a drafting chair so if I want to sit, I sit at the standing desk. Otherwise I stand. It's much more con

From what I've heard these Rate My App dialogs help drive a lot of ratings (which, in turn, helps sales). Most of the people who like an app won't go to the trouble of rating it otherwise.

I find it interesting that while there tends to be a lot of "higher ed isn't worth it" posts that trickle to the top of HN, everyone replying to this thread is recommending going to MIT. I also think you should go to MIT. Especially given y

Definitely not. And despite the other calls, angel investing is a terrible idea as well, imo $450,000 may seem like a lot of money, but in the grand scheme, if it's your entire life savings, it's not. Investing in one company on a seconda

I recently tried 99designs for a logo design attempt and wasn't happy with the results. I wouldn't use it again and wouldn't recommend it. The response wasn't great in quality or number of applicants. The main benefit I suppose is it got

Let me throw out this quote from Scott Adams [1] proposing that being a generalist has a lot of value too. "I succeeded as a cartoonist with negligible art talent, some basic writing skills, an ordinary sense of humor and a bit of experienc

It doesn't matter. It seems there has been a least one study that suggests Montessori is "better" than standard school (the premise of this whole discussion). But to try to extend that to say that almost anything BUT standard school is goo

But it's still so wrong. Even if we can agree standard education is bad, that doesn't make everything else good by default. Including just "let your kid do things he finds interesting and take him to museums and crap".

This is a bit disingenuous. As mentioned in a previous comment, there is a method to Montessori. It's not "let the kids do whatever they want". It is a form of "formal" education and took years of research to come up with. While parents
