Fair point, although I would bet that the share of Netflix customers using Apple devices is significantly higher than 10%. For one thing, in the US, iOS has more like a 45% share. For another, wealthier people are more likely to own iOS dev

Since this article was written, the iPad has gained a number of excellent programming tools from third party developers (Pythonista is my favorite). And perhaps more importantly, Apple has released two: Swift Playgrounds and Shortcuts. Swif

I have a Pocket CHIP. It’s really cool. Comes preloaded with PICO-8, some other software (a synth, etc.), and a dead simple graphical launcher. But under the hood it’s running full on Linux. I got the Swift compiler installed and running on

Same goes for Salt Lake City. But notably, Provo is very red. They also had an existing fiber network infrastructure that they basically gave to Google in exchange for the promise of offering a free service tier to residents.

Yeah, I think there’s something to this. In the US, the news talks about climate change using Celsius, presumably because that’s how scientists measure it. But from a messaging/persuasion perspective, it’s bad. The average American thi

Yep. As evidenced by the iMac Pro also having a T2 despite not having a touch bar. (It also has the kernel panics that are a feature of the T2.)

There’s nothing stopping you from keeping your machine running the same version of the OS you’re on now. It will continue to run fine indefinitely, and should run all the software you use now. Surely Apple is allowed to release updates to t

As have Microsoft and other major companies. Unless you're writing large portions of the code in assembly language, porting to a new operating system can be greatly eased by the developer tools. In the past, Apple has provided a transi

No, unfortunately it looks like it makes heavy use of non-ObjC-bridgeable Swift features including structs, rich enums, etc. It _might_ be feasible to write a wrapper around it using ObjC-compatible Swift, but I don't know enough about

Yeah, I’m still (primarily) a Mac dev, but I think the community has been sort of been subsumed/replaced by the much, much bigger iOS dev community. For what it’s worth, I still find the cocoa-dev mailing list useful.

They not only have a Lisa, they have a Lisa 1, which is very rare. The last one that sold at auction (in the past few months) sold for around $50,000. I've seen estimates for the number remaining in existence as low as 30. It didn'

It sure was. The Lisa originally sold for $10,000 in 1983. The price dropped to about $5k (IIRC) for the Lisa 2 which came out the same day as the original Mac, but that was still very expensive. 128K Mac ($2500) + Lisa 2 ($5000) = $7500 in
