I saw an unsourced comment on reddit that claimed they would have a microwave interlink instead of the laser interlinks, which would give several orders of magnitude lower bandwidth (although still better than nothing). Either way, I think

You made it very clear, thank you. However, do you have more examples of what they’re used for? Given your example, I still don’t understand why monads are so important.

Most plans that use water to make fuel on Mars don't use liquid hydrogen at all. The two most well known plans are the BFR/SSH and Zubrin's Mars Direct, both of which use liquid methane. You still have to cool it, but not nea

Wow this seems like a huge deal. If the whole company is suspected of breaking the embargo, why is just the CFO arrested? Was she just the one they could get? Also, it seems weird that Huawei can sell their own products to Iran but not Amer

Biggest doesn’t mean big. It’s a few thousand people big, ~1% of the IDF as a whole. And in my limited experience, it does carry clout within the tech scene in Israel. On the other hand, whenever people tout “ex Israeli military” as a posit

In July there was a excellent IEEE article [1] on the potential and the difficulties of superconducting turbines. This project (Ecoswing) is mentioned there, although it seems they switched from YBCO to GdBaCuO. [1] https://spect

Good. Bitcoin is too wasteful when it’s at a high valuation. The amount of resources in both electricity and gpu hardware that gets locked into mining is too high. It can still do it’s job as a currency with a lower valuation.

I disagree. I'm using it to learn another language that is far from English, albeit one with much simpler grammar. I find it more effective than a grammar heavy course. You can know every rule of a language and still not be able to spe

No DST means that solar noon is always at 12:00. While useful for figuring out what time it is without a watch that's a less common occurrence nowadays. DST, on the other hand, pushes daytime later, so if you wake up at say 8 (after su

I've always felt that self driving trucks make the most economical sense to automate. A self driving truck would get to its destination faster (saving money) and without the need for a driver (saving money). And the majority of their t

The paper author gives a very clear talk explaining a new dimensional reduction algorithm. From the video, UMAP shows some impressive benefits including a substantial speedup over t-SNE (13x on MNIST).

I don’t see where they come up with the estimate of $10 million per flight? Given the full reusability of the rocket, the cost per flight will be far, far below that?
