The State Dept can't be replaced by a federal contractor. USDS can; why not award Raytheon or L3 (or Halliburton) a contract, acquihire the best devs from the old team, and lay the rest off?

It's a terrible assumption. If you believe Computer Science education has anything to do with programming ability, you shouldn't be surprised the US has many, if not most, of the best programmers already [1,2]. The trouble is i

I found the article very well-written. Barbrook's article on politics is equally fascinating [1]. I'm not sure what to make of it all, but it's certainly thought-provoking. [1] http://www.imaginaryfutures.net&#x

It's not that you forget the content, it's that you forget how to phrase it concisely. If the author needed 70, or 200 pages to explain a concept, and you can at some point raise your hand and claim 'I get the point'

I don't know which reduction you'd use exactly, but efficiently solving Weather Modeling would be positive for most everybody. I wouldn't reduce it to vertex cover, for example, but 3SAT solver might be a more useful tool.

What routines am I slipping into? For example, why am I still reading HN? I don't mean to imply all routines are bad, but awareness is ~60%. Why am I reading more lately? , etc.

Uber does make campaign donations [1]. To suggest it's all about 'spreading information' seems naive at best, if not dishonest. Garcetti had a $250,000 campaign contribution from Uber (or the CEO) in his run for th

I don't think you can eliminate the ugliness. That's okay. I think if you can somehow cluster the ugly comments together, let the ugly people have that discussion, hidden from view, everything might work out. Perhaps textual an
