From what I remember reading about the contest, the problem was that when comparing movies and using movies that were similar to others as a way to suggest movies people either hated or loved Napoleon Dynamite and it didn't match up at all

The story is a bit misleading. I can't imagine such a requirement to be met in only 10 days for over 330,000 employees. What is more likely is that one division is being required at this time, and more are to follow. It makes some sense fo

There is a DC/Nova Hacker News group on meetup.com. http://www.meetup.com/Hacker-News-NOVA-DC/ I would be interesting in meeting up, but this weekend is the High Holidays and can't really do much else.

This reminds me of a comment I heard recently, I think from one of the presenters at TC50, where he said when referring to making money and what he wanted to do in 20 years, he said he'd still want to be working for the company, which was u

I think the poster answers his own question of how twitter will make money. He says "In other words, what happens if hundreds of businesses are created using Twitter’s API but the entity supporting them – Twitter – can’t make revenue or, at

It looks like it will have pretty much exactly the same problems the segway has. It is too expensive (~3,500 - 3,900 Euros). The range is too short (9-10km) and it doesn't go fast enough(edit: When finished won't go fast enough). It remin

The one thing I've noticed from the tech events I've attended and seen videos for is that the presentations aren't always top notch. This might be due to a focus so much on the technology at the point (timeframe in dev cycle) where these co

Its nice to see them being so transparent about what happened and how they plan on fixing it in the future. They're obviously working on anticipating problems in the future, but what I wonder about is things like this, where they thought t

I see this as a step in the direction for Skype to move towards IPO, otherwise it doesn't make sense that any VCs would be willing to invest in it. As I see it, take a profitable company, with 600M in revenue, spend some time destructing an

With regards to being able to pick out founders and VCs, I wonder if the inability to pick out successful founders is due to the fact that they look just like everyone else who is trying to create something and do something cool, and after

I've always felt that vinyl sales fit perfectly with an online store. The community that typically still purchases them for a large part already knows what they want and in turn don't need to be bothered by going into a store Best Buy may

Looks like they are having database errors. Also looks like that page is based off of CodeIgniter, unless there is another framework that has similar database error pages. Someone know what they built the site in?

The best thing I've found that works is to put yourself out there. Making it as easy as possible to contact your company and get in touch with an actual person keeps any small problems from exploding into a huge one.

Not looking to design anything right now, just realized it would be nice to have a basic understanding of a field outside of everything I know. This also in the past has allowed me to figure out things I truly find interesting.
