My favourite inaccuracy being the bridge-less Battle of Stirling Bridge! Edit: And wasn't the "brave heart" Bruce's that was taken on crusade after its owner's death?

I think encountering C arrays and pointers rewrote my brain so that 0 based indexing made more sense even though up to that point (~40 years ago) I'd only used languages that used 1 based indexing (Basic and Pascal).

Why do you need the first 4 years undergrad - in places like the UK you can go straight to study medicine from secondary school at age ~18?

I had to use a Burroughs mainframe for development during the first year of my CS course in 1983 - might have been interesting hardware but the user experience was ghastly - some awful thing called CANDE = although I did get a laugh out of

That had me puzzled because there is at least one church that was a cathedral in the "seat of a bishop" sense but hasn't been for hundreds of years but is still referred to as a cathedral: https://www.stgilescath

"extraordinarily small by typical software developer standards" That's the incredible thing about these TMs - they are amazingly small but still can exhibit very complex behaviours - it's like microscopy for programs.

I think you have to exhaustively check each 5-state TM, but then for each one brute force will only help a bit - brute force can't tell you that a TM will run forever without stopping?

Well for my commute the trains are every 30 mins or so - pretty convenient times and a short walk from the office. The ticket is cheap, much cheaper than a days parking and during the trip I get to sit, look at the view and sip a coffee. Th

A few years back I got a call from a scammer selling a device that would help stop scam phone calls - that actually took me a while to realise it was a scam (this is like 15 years ago).
